[Merissa] Video Evaluation

Introduction The assignment I was set with was to create a video advertisement showing off techniques we learnt with both Merissa and Mark. The product we showed off in the advert was a bottle which we created the branding with Faye.
Research Unfortunately, I was absent for 3 lessons of this. However I would have researched the types of the shots used in similar adverts and those ways that they record (portrait/landscape). Furthermore, I would look at actions and emotions the actors display to make our advert as professional as possible.
Skills learnt The type of skills I learnt doing this was communication, planning and how to take certain shots and be safe when taking them so I don’t cause damage to the equipment used. The shots that were the most difficult for me were the Jib shot and the Steady Cam shot as these required the most care and skill when it comes to doing it correctly, Especially the Panning Jib shot. I felt the other shots such as Panning Shot and Tilt shot.
Final Piece The final piece I felt was good as it showed a lot of symmetry however not too much. The editing effects I felt were suitable and well presented. The music and sound effects helped set the mood and I feel the colour and music change from dark and creepy to colourful and musical helps persuade the potential buyers to buy it.
Redo? If I had to re-do the project I would definitely communicate more than we did as it was awkward due to being the first project. I hope to avoid situations like this in the future. I would try get more involved in my group however was difficult as I was absent for the majority of the planning.

[Faye] Print Evaluation

Introduction The assignment set to us was to create a label for a product which we would be advertising in Video Production.

What did we produce? The product we as a group produced was a label for a bottle. Each of us attempted making the product's branding however we chose mine as it was the most visually appealing. We had no product name so I put  the text saying "drink". After researching we came up with the name "Lava Flow". The brandings background fitted suitably and the slogan we came up with was: The hottest cold drink!

Research The research we did was effective for us on creative the branding for our products. I did primary and secondary research. The primary research I used was going into stores such as tesco and sainsburys and analysing drinks products. I saw a few products with QR codes so I placed one on my product's packaging.

Skills The skills I learnt was teamwork, decision making and time managment. I hope these are going to benefit me for future projects as it allows me to focus my time for effectively and progress further with the tasks set.
Final Piece? I feel my print off was good quality however the sizing was a little of as it was 2-3cm too long so I sellotaped it over the top of one-another. I personally feel the graphics present on my product's branding was of high quality and design. The ingrediants could of been of higher quality however was taken from the internet so there isn't much I can do about that.
Examples

Next Time If I was to repeat this project. I would have more communication as we had no team name and was awkward for the start however after a small amount we began talking more and discussing things so that would be a definate

[Mark] Photography Evaluation

Introduction The assignment I was set with was to bring in household products to create a montage of images. The task is a good starter as it allows us to get into photography and learn skills we will need for future projects.

Research The types of images I wanted to take were those showing off the new skills I learnt such as: rules of thirds, leading lines and so on. The images that inspired me were those found in ‘[Mark] Advertising Ideas’ on my Blogger. This style of photography really caught my eye and motivated me to make something similar. I took the tower with other small towers coming out of the building and manipulated the image to make it unique by putting cigarette’s into the tower.

Characteristics of Freaky/Unusual photography The type of photography known as ‘freaky’ or ‘unusual’ is that which isn’t everyday art. It has a twist – maybe gruesome or montaged to make it unusual. This can be done by having good levels of symmetry to make it freaky maybe a ghost on spiral staircase. A secondary technique which could make something freaky is a low light level on a picture. It is sometimes making something bright and loud but maybe messing with the pixels or selecting a row of pixels and shifting one to the left or right to distort the image.

Ideas The ideas I came up were do-able however were a little more time consuming and that was time which I did not have. I went with the image which I felt was the most creative and most do-able in the time frame that was set for me. The outline of my idea was to go out into Nottingham and take a picture of a skyscraper. Unfortunately I couldn’t go take this picture so I found an external source (google) and placed onto Photoshop.

Photography When taking the photo I had to take into account several things – The location. This is difficult as it would require me standing on the road and would be dangerous to me so I would need to wait for the traffic to pass before capturing the image. Time - I would also need to consider the time avaliable for me to do this; Can i get all the photographing, editing, blogging and the evalution done before the deadline on the 16th @ 5:00pm.

Examples of work
Next Time If i was to repeat this assignment I would definetly spend more time getting the evidence as this time I spent more time editing and capturing the images. I would also like for us as students to be allowed to run off our own theme of photography rather then being told what type we need to make. For example: I am into skateboarding - so I would rather have my input on what photography I would like to take - I know this project was free reign however it had to be based off an image I found on the internet that was freeky or unique. I have an idea for this is I was to repeat it.

Change? If I had to choose anything to change it would again be that of allowing students to input and create what they want to - not only will it get them more involved it will also allow the teachers to know what kind of things we like and can plan future projects around things like that (if the majority are into one thing).
